SETUP GUIDE

EASY REMOTE

Use your computer from anywhere, at full quality, for free.

🖥️

The computer you want

stays home, stays awake
  • Apollo
  • Tailscale
📱

The thing in your hand

phone, tablet, laptop
  • Moonlight
  • Tailscale

Both sides need Tailscale, logged into the same account. That is what lets them find each other on any wifi. Apollo sends the screen, Moonlight shows it.

1

Set up the computer you want to reach

do this one first

Open this page on the computer you want to reach, download the app, and choose “This PC stays at home”. It installs Apollo and Tailscale, stops the machine from falling asleep, makes closing the lid harmless, and pins streaming to the graphics card. Then it asks you to make up an Apollo password and shows you the address for your phone.

WINDOWS 10 OR 11 · FREE · NO INSTALL, JUST RUN IT
The first time, Windows will try to stop it. A blue box says “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info, then the Run anyway button that appears. If you close that box instead, nothing happens at all and the app looks broken. The warning only means the app is not signed with a paid certificate.

It opens straight away without asking for administrator rights. It only asks when it actually installs something.

Set up the thing you carry

pick what you are holding

Connect them, once

never again after this
  1. Log in to Tailscale on both sides with the same account.
  2. Open Moonlight, press +, and type the address EASY REMOTE showed you (it looks like 100.x.x.x).
  3. Moonlight shows a PIN. Type that PIN into EASY REMOTE on the home computer, in the box waiting for it, and press Pair.

From then on it is one tap in Moonlight. Test it once on mobile data before you travel: if it works there, it works anywhere.

Accounts, and giving this to a friend

What does the account actually do?

Only Tailscale has an account. Every device logged into your account forms your own private network and can see the others. Apollo and Moonlight have no accounts at all.

A friend installs this and logs in with their own Google account

They get their own separate private network. They control their own computer from their own phone. They cannot see your machines and you cannot see theirs. Nothing is shared by accident, so handing the app to a friend is safe.

You actually want a friend to reach your computer

Two ways. Either add them to your network as a user (the free plan covers up to 6 people), or better, use Tailscale's Share feature on just that one machine. Sharing is free, they keep their own account, and they get access to that machine only, nothing else of yours.

Is the tunnel the only thing protecting me?

No, there is a second lock. Even someone on your network still has to pair with a PIN typed on your computer before Apollo will stream anything. No PIN, no picture.

Does it work while the computer is asleep?

No. A sleeping computer cannot be woken reliably over wifi, so EASY REMOTE turns sleep off on the home machine. The screen can still go dark, that costs almost nothing.
